Most people seem to hate the irradiated look of the game, but I love it. Bleak, depressing and desolate is how I've always preferred my wasteland.
People can talk all they want about how Bethesda screwed up and the world wouldn't look like that after 200 years, but they know full well life and greenery would return. Thing is, that wasn't their vision for the game.
They created a truly amazing world with a rich, immersive atmosphere, and I'm thankful they did. The first time through I noticed something: Everything is brown. Even when logically they shouldn't be. And then I played it into the ground because it's a good game. Some time later I got the DLC included version and played The Pitt, where everything is red even more than everything in the Wasteland is brown. The first thing I thought as I returned to the Wastes was, 'This place is so colorful!' Without The Pitt's overwhelming red tint things looked crisper, more real.I'm a dirty console peasant, but I'd bet removing the green filter does for most what the lack of red did for me.

One of the main reasons is probably vault 87(right?) that puts out super mutants. The brotherhood can barely hold the ride against them. It's hard to rebuild when there are hundreds of 8 foot psychopaths trying to kill everyone. I think the super mutant menace is what has kept society from advancing on the east coast(at least near DC).Also, everyone always talks about how Fallout 3 is behind NV in terms of rebuilding. Well, that happens all over the world.
There are countries that are decades behind others in technology. Not every group of people advance at the same pace.
It does not bother me, although I would have liked more color. It does bother me that many games seem to hate color in general (like every brown-grey shooter ever), even when they do not need the tint to match their theme, but in this specific game, it did not bother me. That said, no use always doing the same thing. I like the more colorful game we are getting soon. And I would prefer a choice in all games. Not everyone appreciates a 'style'. It can get tiring.

Here's a list of Fallout 3 mods I'm using at the moment. This is also the mod setup I'm using on my on YouTube. If you want to see these mods in action as I roleplay through F3.
Fallout 3 Mods I UseThe are many Fallout 3 mod lists. This one is mine.I use mods to make F3 look better, make the game more challenging with the focus on roleplaying, realism and immersion, and to add new things to the game for me to use, discover and explore. The list is quite long, so check out the short ' at the end of the post for what I think are the best Fallout 3 mods (and thus, would always install when playing). Are you new to modding, modding Fallout 3 for the first time or otherwise need some advice on installing mods?.Latest Update: May 2013. BASE AND UTILITY MODSNexus Mod Manager- OK, not a mod, but this is the one I use to manage and install mods.- BOSS = A plugin load order optimiser for Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas and some other games too.- Sorts your mod load order (to make the mods work as intended). I'm planning out a re-installation of FO3, and I'd like to make the game more stable using a lot of the patch files that people have created. FO3 Remastered looks a lot more up-to-date and concise than a lot of the the Unofficial Patches and such. Can you address how it was so much better than others that you chose to use it yourself?
Furthermore, who made it? I'd like to get a copy, but of course it's gone from the Nexus. Is it archived anywhere else, as Ling's Finer Things was for a while when its author went off the Nexus? Said.I don't know where FO3 Remastered is available if it's not in Nexus.I chose to use it, not because I thought it was better, but because I first found Blackened, which lead me to Remastered. FOIP is very good and works, but Blackened was new and maintained (and compatible with Remastered).Likewise, Remastered was new and still being developed, addressing new issues. As said, I don't think Remastered was better - In fact, I had more glitches (with quests) and such when I used it, so it is/was not better than Unofficial Patch + Error Fixes. CJBeitingsaid.Okay, let me ask you a question about installation, and versions, if you know.I'm going to want to use several popular mods, and I know there are a number of different patches out there designed to make them work together. So, if I am using: Project Beauty, Weapon Mod Kits, Mart's Mutant Mod, and FWE, can I:1.
Use the FWE+MMM+PB patch from Blackened, and2. The WMK patch from FOIP?Is it possible to combine the Blackened and FOIP patches as long as they don't cover the same mods? Said. What do you mean not using? I am using all the 'The Mergers' versions, including Enchanted Blood Textures - it's the 'FO3 Wanderers Edition - More Gore.esp' in my load order = FWE compatible Enchanted Blood = another reason use the merge version. With Realistic Interior Lighting the main reason for using The Mergers was that it was required by the Fallout Remastered when it was still available and I installed it, but also just because it's less.esp's - there's no such thing as 'only 4' with this many mods, they add up:).
Personally, I love Fellout. Not any problems I can see, really, except that SOTD is still kinda dark for me. A problem I noticed with nightvision is addressed in these pics: argue that it is, I recall an event a while back, when I was driving out in the middle of freaking nowhere, in a fairly open field, half-moon, and if it wasn't for my headlights it would have been pitch-censored-black.A single event awhile back.Sure, it being pitch black would make sense every once in awhile when it's particularly cloudy, but always making it pitch black would just be frustrating.Posts: 3489 Joined: Tue Aug 07, 2007 8:20 am. Also, being called names in the readme is just amazingly juvenile. Not everyone plays in a pitch black basemant (no insult intended, sometimes, I wish I did).
I have a bright window in this room that makes it essentially impossible to play at while it is raining at night in the game, using the Enhanced Weather.Jeeze, talk about taking things too seriously.:rolleyes:But anyway, the reasons I have moved onto dynamic weather as opose to fellout is that it just gets boring. DW gives more variety in weather conditions so I choose that, even if the green tint is still there.Posts: 3524 Joined: Thu Aug 03, 2006 1:04 am. But anyway, the reasons I have moved onto dynamic weather as opose to fellout is that it just gets boring. DW gives more variety in weather conditions so I choose that, even if the green tint is still there.I've recently moved from Fellout to Xepha's Dynamic Weather for the same reason. I have no issue with the green tint, and DW's variety makes me notice the weather more. It makes me actually look at the sky when I come out of a building and think, 'it's going to rain soon'.
For amking me do in-game what I do in real life (look at the weather, notice its changes and react to it), DW scores a big point over Fellout. To be fair, I haven't used DW for long enough to give a proper comparison between it and Fellout, but hopefully this bit of feedback will help you to make Fellout even better.Posts: 3466 Joined: Wed Jan 24, 2007 10:46 am. To be fair to Fellout, it is a weather mod and not a lighting mod. Adding lights should be the responsibility of other mods.
But yes it does seem like a lot of people are not fans of realistically dark nights.I understand that. But just to be clear, I -like- dark nights. In fact, I am using an alternate weather mod that also has dark nights (but not as dark as Fellout). I'd like to see one weather mod with 'dark nights' feature that takes into account some of the towns and settlements where the population are up and about at night (eg. Paradise Falls, Canterbury Commons, Megaton) and provides some features for them.
An additional problem that is beyond ths scope of any weather or lighting mod to fix is the fact that npcs are unaffected by darkness.Posts: 3398 Joined: Wed Sep 06, 2006 6:04 pm. I've tried both the Sotd and standard versions and ideally I would like to see a mix of the two; A version halfway between in terms of level of darknessThis is my exact thought too after trying them both out. One is just a tad too dark, realistic or not, and the other is way too bright.A medium dark version and I think a lot more people would use it since the too dark nights seems to be one of the things with the mod that puts a lot of ppl off from keep using it once they try it out.I will continue to use it regardless though. I love the way it makes the wasteland look.
No more green/yelllow/'insert other personal favorite crap colored overlay here' tint!Posts: 3468 Joined: Mon Aug 28, 2006 4:42 am. I absolutly love fellout. I tried playing the mods but I soon found that mothernature was bipolar when it came to weather in those. I've allways like the fallout purple sky for some reason.Maybe I like it because I sleep through the night.Maybe someone could make a mod where people have flashlights or really bright lanterns. I might work on one that makes cities brighter at night, would make sense that certain big cities would want to attract travelers.Posts: 3538 Joined: Fri Jul 07, 2006 4:34 am. Likewise, I am also not fond of the lighting scheme, especially for the nights.

I don't really like the extremes in lighting, particularly the overly bright sun and the pitch black nights. You can't even see the sun; it's just an overly huge patch of white.
The nights haven't been a nuisance to me so far, since I'm using Primary Needs and I sleep through (most) nights anyway.I'm mainly using Fellout to remove the pervading green tint, so separating that aspect from the lighting would be appreciated. Otherwise, the lighting levels need to be balanced.Posts: 3333 Joined: Fri May 18, 2007 4:30 am. Likewise, I am also not fond of the lighting scheme, especially for the nights. Otherwise, the lighting levels need to be balanced.Sounds more like bad HDR settings in the ini and/or bad monitor/GPU calibration.Posts: 3450 Joined: Wed Jan 17, 2007 9:40 am. I still say the one on the right is more real world, the one on the left is more of a smog/haze.Which isn't related to what I was saying? The picture is from the Fallout 3 nexus, comparing vanilla Fallout 3 to Fellout. I wasn't talking about the colours or the haze or anything; I'm talking about the amount of light coming from the Sun. The opposite end of the comments about the dark nights. In the original on the left, if you look carefully, you can see the Sun in the center. But looking at Fellout, the amount of light coming from the Sun is huge. It's an abnormal amount of glow.
The green tint/haze kinda covered for the huge glow, originally, but now it's overwhelming the sky.Posts: 3343 Joined: Sat Oct 14, 2006 2:54 amDisplay posts from previous: Sort.

What changes in Fallout 4 do you like that they added in?I think the story is quite engrossing this time. It was a bit weak in the others, if I remember correctly. All I remember from Fallout 3 is that you were looking for your dad and it started out promising, but I think I had so much fun with side missions and exploring that I kinda forgot about the story. And in NV.ehh, it was okay story-wise. Basically, choosea faction and do all of their missions until they get unreasonable and then jump ship to another one. Haha I think I belonged to all of them for a while and ended with Mr. House.I love the settlement idea because I love building stuff.THANK GOODNESS Dogmeat is tougher this time around.
In Fallout 3 when Dogmeat died 20 minutes after I got him, I was like, NO BETHESDA, NO!!!!! And had to go to an earlier save and keep him in my Megaton shack, which defeats the whole purpose of havinghim in the first place. And the Dogmeat version in NV was a weird robotic variant that had different brains? I never enjoyed that concept.Less ghoul bum-rushing. THANK YOU BETHESDA.
Remember in F3 how you would get ridiculously overrun with ghouls in every subway tunnel? Well I did until I got the ghoul mask, which was the single best thing I ever earned in the game. Now the ghouls just sleepily get up from the ground and come running at you. They ARE a lot creepier now though. The power armor is a nice idea.I think I'm happy with it. Once I can modify them a little bit more and have more parts, I think I will like it more. It took me a while to understand the concept so I was running around in a plain frame for about 5 hoursbefore I was like.hmmm.something seems wrong.:pThe graphics aren't so dreary and the changes in weather are really great! My only complaint is why does the map seem small to me? Am I just imagining things?
The Skyrim map seemed ginormous.Over all, I'm really happy with the improvements and enjoying the game so much! I agree with Eggnogga about the lack of having to repair everything, all the time. That got really old. I question the statement about skills? Like, you mean having to level them up? They are still in the game.I like that this world feels so much more alive than the previous installments. The weather, the color, the random battles that happen all the time, it's like here is a world that exists even if you aren't doing anything.
People are going about their lives(or deaths!) even if you aren't watching them, you know, like real life!Oh, and I like how I can totally cherry pick the loot after watching two factions go at it.
